if only that training didn't cost money to get it

Ah, good old fashioned orbital bombardment! Nicely done, I wouldn't want to be on the ground!

This would also work well as some kind of orbital mining, like a laser teather of some kind!

Haha yeah it kinda looks like a tractor beam or something :P
I will be making another render though because now that I look at it, I don't like it at all :D

I'm taking it that it's using lasers to bomb the city.

That city doesn't stand a chance.

Well they're some kind of kinetic drops :) And yeah, the city will be painted in grey colors now :P

1. Take a telephone pole (or any similarly-sized chunk of iron or steel).
2. Put it in orbit.
3. Slow it down so that it will fall back out of orbit.
4. Said telephone pole (or similarly sized chunk of iron or steel) hits your target with energy equal to, or greater than, a nuclear explosion. Minus the radiation.

They're called Rods from God. Basically, they're meteor strikes on demand.

Ah gotcha. Thanks.

Isn't it weird how mankind spends billions of dollars and time to create weapons of mass destruction like the Atom bomb or the Hydrogen bomb, and they pall in comparison to a falling chunk of metal or rock. Ironic ain't it.

But hey, thanks for the explanation. Never thought of that before. Would you mind if I used it in one of my stories? Please?

Getting that chunk of metal into orbit would cost several million dollars. A pop. It's just not feasible at this point in time.

I didn't come up with that. So I don't really care if you use that idea. It's not mine. [link]

Well I was referring to natural kinetic objects such as meteors. But you are right, man made kinetic drops would cost millions to get in space.

Holy cow. If it costs several million dollars to get a chunk of metal into orbit, then how much did that battleship cost? :faint:

depends, if it was an orbital or deep space shipyard and the resources came from low g bodies such as moons or asteroids then the energy needed to transport would be fairly low.

Also, a group that could build such a ship could probably afford to launch a few spare tonnes of material to drop on some poor sap.

Well, ya still gotta get it into orbit, and the Manhatten Project was over and done long before we started even thinking about launching anything into space. ;)

Also, it's not his idea. This has been on the drawing board for a long time, but the Nuclear Test Ban treaty effectively eliminated the possibility that it would even be used by us. Read up on it here: [link]
