Yeah the ship turned out the way it did probably because I didn't think about any details and logical explanation to the shape. Star Wars was always more about looks than reasonable tech so it looks like that slapping a few basic shapes together works better for that universe. In the beginning it was composed out of a box (which turned into main hull), two halves of a flat cylinder (engines) and two smaller ones that made the cockpit hull and turret housing.
It bears slight resemblances to Republic Cruiser (the "winglets" at both sides of the central tube resemble those of RC at the begining of Ep1) and YT-2400 (the central tube) which are both corellian engineering corporation ships. (I don't know if its intentional even if not it was a nice tip of hat to that traditon)
My design "bantha fodder" is a of a different breed but yours is much more closer to SW designs
Yeah all of this is intentional. I actually looked at old McQuarrie's designs and tried to understand his drawing style. Basically I started with the most simple shapes that resembled the classics and then started adding details also by examining the other ships. Will take a look at your ship right away
