A simple render of a TIE fighter that I designed and modeled. It's set between episode III and IV when the Empire was redesigning its fleet and army.

Is this meant to be a predecessor to the fighters seen in 'A New Hope', e.g., a design that was replaced because it was too slow? Was it a TIE Advanced x0, e.g., an attempt to develop a TIE replacement, which was rejected because it was too expensive, sharing little- if any- commonality with the standard fighters?

I don't mean to be critical. The design is very impressive- intimidating, as befits an Imperial vehicle- I'm just curious why you set it between 'Revenge of the Sith' and 'A New Hope', meaning the Empire removed the vehicle from service for some reason.

Well the main idea was that it got rejected as most of the production ships due to the costs. TIEs were known for their cheap assembly so I guess everything that would be more expensive, would just go away. It shares design elements with Republic fighters from the Clone Wars, so it would be a prototype to check if those solutions can apply to mass production.

So it's a predecessor to the TIE Fighter, a prototype that wasn't put in mass-production, due to costs? Fair enough.

this shoulde been their desgin rather then that pilot seat attached to 2 solar panals and a set of guns+engines....at least this looks more like a fighter the that thing...and frankly it looks like a strong wind can tear the tie fighter in star wars films apart...

Haha yeah the originals looked really badly made :D They were iconic in their shapes though. I hope that if we get new TIEs in the future SW movies, they will be more powerful.
